Psychological Therapy
What is Clinical Psychology?
Psychological Therapy,
also known as Clinical Psychology, is
proven to be effective for a wide range
of problems including: anxiety – stress
– depression - issues of loss - low
self-esteem - obsessive-compulsive
disorders - traumatic experiences -
psychosis, eating disorders and
addictions.
A Clinical Psychologist
is trained in a range of different
psychological models and is able to
match the necessary treatment to the
difficulties presented by the client.
A warm, empathic
relationship is an opportunity for
clients to explore their thoughts and
feelings and in doing so, are able to
unravel and resolve issues affecting
their lives. Psychological Therapy
provides an additional element of a
focussed, directive approach thereby
enhancing the depth of resolution to
problems.
A psychological approach
offers a formulation (or map) for why
people find themselves in their
particular situation and will offer
explanations for the origins of an
individual’s difficulties. Following
this, an explicit treatment plan is
recommended based on matching the most
suitable psychological model to the
person’s needs.
It is the aim of the
therapist, through mutual awareness, for
the client to resolve previous issues
and ultimately to live a more fulfilled
life.
